The actual dollar figure associated with Support Costs and Hardware Costs will vary greatly from company to company. Data Replication Costs pretty much compares SQL Server Standard Edition + 3rd party replication solutions vs. SQL Server Enterprise Edition. Those actual costs will vary depending upon how you license SQL Server and what replication solution you are using. One possible example with actual dollar amounts shows up to a 71% savings using SQL Server Standard Edition with 3rd party replication.
There are so many variables to quote actual numbers, so instead the article points out areas that you should look at closely in your environment.

I agree with Kevin. While MI is certainly is an option, it is not for everyone. Same with PaaS offerings, nice in some scenarios, but not a fit for everyone. For those instances where MI or PaaS are not a viable option, we still need to address how to manage SQL Server in IaaS.
