Automated Testing
The broader rise in automation has paved the way for advanced capabilities and time savings for developers and tech professionals, especially when it comes to testing. There are increasingly more conversations around how to transition tests to an automated cadence as well as a deeper push toward better automated testing integration throughout the SDLC. Solutions such as artificial intelligence (AI) and low code play an important role in implementing tests for development and testing teams, expanding test coverage and eliminating time spent on redundant tasks. It's a win-win-win.In DZone's 2023 Automated Testing Trend Report, we further assess current trends related to automated testing, covering everything from architecture and test-driven development to observed benefits of AI and low-code tools. The question is no longer should we automate tests; it's how do we better automate tests and integrate them throughout CI/CD pipelines to ensure high degrees of test coverage? This question will be examined through our original research, expert articles from DZone Community members, and other insightful resources.

And many other Mac users I have spoken to and heard in the media, podcasts etc. Anyway, that's not the focus of this article :)

Yeah, it's in it's early days, but lots of interesting integrations :)

Thanks!

Yeah, I didn't touch on Electron, but it's a good point. I don't know if it's a good thing though.

Hmm, yeah, if Docker could be made slightly more user-friendly and take it to a more extreme outcome, that's an interesting concept actually.

I didn't say Windows was losing steam, but that Microsoft is losing interest in it… Slight difference, it will be around for a while yet, but it what capacity?

I have no idea what this means but I love it :)

Exactly, which was kind of my subtle point here. It's actually something the crypto scene is very guilty of, thinking that everything they do is new…

You can always rely on an article about better writing to have a mistake!
Corrected…

What do you mean? The impression I got in the interview was that was exactly what they were aiming for. What do you mean by 'object'?

I am not surprised, then Fuschia running Dart… I feel like Java will be making a quiet exit soon…

Because they are both spoken about and mentioned a lot. In different ways and contexts of course, but they are both faily well known.

Cool post Chris. Hit this problem a few times in the past, not just with CI but also for testing on the fly. I wonder if the move away from 'native apps' will end up solving this?

Great post thanks Erica. My last company had an entire design department that would help other teams with their sprints. It would make things take longer, but resulted in better work.

I am basing this experience on visitng many, many projects that state "doesn't work on Windows". And that I spent the past 4 months attempting to develop on Windows and giving up. Yes it's in certain fields (i.e. not .Net), but it's based on actual experience.
PS. I don't live in Silicon Valley :/

Sobering article William. I am more of a technical writer and even test that, maybe that's a step to far?

Thanks Nic, nice post. I spent some time working for a (smaller) rival of both of these companies and glanced at their query code, but good to see a solid example.

Thanks Kin, I'm responsible going to check out your toolbox, I definitely document APIs, but often that means I am also mostly for some aspect of tolling and management.

Cool stuff Matt! I sopent a lot of time recently switching my shell to ZSH and getting all sorts of extensions setup, one thing I'd love to see is a better way of syncing my setup to another computer…

Great post Mike! I would add one further comment. There are also people who have no motivation or enthusiasm for particular tasks.

Thanks for this, I've heard a lot about Graph databases without ever really understanding them!

I've been recently wondering if the constant desire to 'keep delivering' is having an imapct on software reliability. Or we're making it too complex. Hmm
